What happens when you send it
- Your request goes to our care-matching partner, which shares it with home care providers covering the postcode you gave. We do not provide care ourselves.
- Providers with availability contact you directly by phone or email to talk the care through. How many get in touch depends on how many cover the area and have carers free.
- You decide. Nothing is arranged until you agree it with a provider. You are free to say no to all of them.
Before you agree anything
We do not vet or inspect the providers who contact you. Home care agencies must be registered with the care regulator for their nation — the Care Quality Commission in England, the Care Inspectorate in Scotland, Care Inspectorate Wales, or RQIA in Northern Ireland. Look the provider up by name, read its latest inspection report, and ask who will actually visit, how carers are matched and what happens if a carer is off sick.
If cost is the worry
If the person needing care may qualify for help with the cost, ask the local council for a needs assessment. It is free, anyone who appears to need care and support can ask for one, and it is the route to council-arranged or council-funded care. You can ask for it and still speak to providers at the same time.
